I have lots of good days working at Westonbirt Arboretum, who wouldn’t? But the day I picked up a cheque for £250,000 (the first instalment of a £500,000 award) definitely tops the list.

Back in June Matt Parratt from Forest Research and a team of volunteers completed the first stage of a comprehensive survey of the vegetation communities and plant species of the Downs.

As you may be aware, Phase One of the Westonbirt Project involves restoring the downland grassland area where currently the visitor car park is.

Many of you who have visited the arboretum recently will have noticed that we have installed a new metal estate fence and gates along the main entrance drive into the arboretum, replacing the wooden fence and gates.

We have nearly completed the electric upgrade trenching work on site.

We are literally brightening up at the news that funding has been received to upgrade our electricity supply from Phase 1 to Phase 3.

The Westonbirt Project is comprised of a number of elements including the restoration of landscape features and improvements to our electricity supply and car parking arrangements.

The new ha-ha has just been completed! We have finished adding the last few courses of stone and laid coping stones to finish the last section of wall.
